Episode 14: Our Magical Episode
The greatest illusion is to think that life is at all possible without illusion --Bart Giamatti
This cocktail is so delicious that you won't mind being stranded on the lake during your Colonial lazy river experience! It starts with a simple syrup infused with ginger, mint and lime. Rum, ginger beer, lime and mint round out the flavors and give it fizz. It also makes a great mocktail. Just leave out the rum! You'll find more detail on the recipe page.
Bootie Knits
Swatching is Magic (or is it?)
Maybe there are people out there who like to swatch but Bootie has yet to encounter them. You can think of swatching as wine tasting (mmmmm, wine, see? Not so bad.). You're trying to find out if you really like the wine enough to buy a case of it. Patty Lyons has an entire chapter devoted to swatching in her book Patty Lyons' Knitting Bag of Tricks. Bootie is swatching for Marie Greene of Olive Knit's annual 4 Day KAL (knitalong). Upper left is Treasure Goddess Yarn Bamboo linen Treasures in Kiss from a Mermaid held with a strand of Silk Treasures Lace in White Sand Beach. Top right is Malabrigo Susurro in 247 Whales Road. Bottom is Juniper Moon Farm in Zooey Dappled, color Coral Sands. Bootie recommends tying knots on one of your yarn tails to indicate the size of needle you used.
And the winner is...Treasure Goddess Yarn! Bossy voted for this one and so did Bootie's daughter. Bootie may need to make more than one of these sweaters...The sweater gauge magnifier is the EZ PZ gauge ruler by Crazy Cat Designs and can be found at Jimmy Bean's Wool (not to be confused with Jimmy Dean sausage).
Bossy Knits
Mom's Consolation Hedgehog-- no longer Blind, Naked and Afraid!
Holly has a dress! And shoes! Bossy followed the pattern for Holly's dress in Knitted Animal Friends by Louise Crowther but she added a pocket to the front and made it into a halter top to show off as much of her hard work on the quills as possible. The hedgehog was made with Scheepjes Stone Washed in Moonstone and Obsidian (829). The dress is Stone Washed Larimar (828) for the green and Laneras Felicidad in Bahama Mama (216) for the orange.
Even if you have a tiny home like our sister, you can still have plenty of magical ice globes! It's all about priorities. This mold is similar to our sister's.
Bootie's precious lemon squeezer which can also be used as a bludgeoning instrument. Bootie's is an older model but you can get a similar one at Williams-Sonoma.
And whatever you do, don’t knit like my sister!
