Episode 11 Vacation gone A-rye
Sometimes things don't go as planned. Bootie and Bossy were very excited about all the excellent adventures they had planned for Bossy's visit to Washington. Three days in, our Mom fell and fractured her pelvis. Spending time at the hospital was definitely not what any of us had in mind, most especially Mom, but we did manage to salvage what we could and were glad just to be spending time together. We love you, Mom, and we wish you a very speedy recovery so you can enjoy our cocktail, the Blackberry Ginger Rye for this episode!!
Bossy Knits
We found that knitting, as usual, came to the rescue during stressful times. Bossy was able to finish her Arpeggio shawncho (she converted it from a shawl to a poncho). She knit the garment straight up, instead of using increases like you would for a shawl. This meant of course that she needed to figure out how many stitches to cast on to make a rectangle wide enough so that it could be turned into a poncho. Once she had a rectangle wide enough and long enough, she bound off some of the stitches for the neck and then used a 3 needle bind off to seam the shoulder. Doesn't she look great? Her hubby snapped these shots before they went out for a night on the town.

Bootie Knits
Eek! Bootie steeked! Bootie is finally finished with her Brezel sweater by Marie Greene and she loves it. Here are a few pictures of the process and the finished product. Marie Greene did an excellent job of providing the support and reassurance to (gulp!) cut into a knitted piece.

We did manage to visit a few yarn shops which we will highlight in the next few episodes. First up is Stranded by the Sea, a most excellent name. This delightful store (which was under construction at the time) is full of nautical decorations, including two octupi named Kevin and Taco. The owner features the complete line of Jamieson of Shetland Wool in Spindrift, along with local artisans, including a husband/wife team. The husband is a woodmaker/engineer who will be making Wooly boards or Jumper boards, and the wife is a hand spinner and dyer. We picked up some Jul pedestal buttons which can be used as shawl pins or after thought buttons, very useful! Here is a little tour of the shop:
