Episode 19 How to Make a Meeting into a Party
"A party without cake is really just a meeting." --Julia Child
Bootie and Bossy each thought they had the best ginger snap recipe. It turns out that their recipes are virtually identical! Bootie's came from her wonderful friend, Mary Ellen Haley, who is well known for her delicious baking. Bossy's came from Marion Cunningham's cookbook, The Breakfast Book. Bossy has been luring her coworkers into attending meetings with these cookies, along with the accompanying lemon curd, for many years. One of her coworkers said he goes to bed dreaming of them. The recipe for the lemon curd comes from Ina Garten who ingeniously has you peeling the lemons for the zest and then pulverizing the peels with sugar. This method may use a few more bowls than we would like, but it's so easy. You can find the recipe here.
Bootie had the honor and pleasure of meeting Marie Greene at Nifty Knitters in Issaquah for her signing of her most recent book, The Joy of Yarn. There are many insightful tips about rediscovering the joy in the stash of yarn you already own, plus stash busting patterns! Bootie is sporting her Brezel, a sweater pattern by Marie Greene, and her Felt Cute Tote, also by Marie (Bootie made a few modifications which you can read about here).
Behold, Bootie's yarn stash! Here is Bootie's quote from Marie's book, The Joy of Yarn, "The game changer for me was making my stash visible. Now when I'm tempted by a sale, I can easily look at what I have and know what I want. It's really easy to buy yarn, put it all away and forget you bought it...I find that I'm more likely to reach for [these] skeins because I see them out in the open all the time."
Bootie keeps a few inspirational items on the top of her stash cubbies. This includes her badges from knit camp, some useful tools, and her most recent yarn purchases. In the beaded container are the tails of projects that she turns into stuffing for toys when it gets full.
Bootie is working hard to finish the border for her own creation which she is calling her "rainbow composion." She used The Yarn Snob's Happiness in fingering, plus some white and gray yarn (also from The Yarn Snob), The Cape Cod Yarn Company Fingering Weight in color Provincetown (thanks, Bossy!), and the Loved Ones Yarn in Wooly Worm Fingering color Bleeding Hearts. The brioche border is the Chai Tea scarf from Michelle Lee Bernstein's excellent book, Brioche, Knit, Love. Bootie is using a fingering weight instead of DK. for the border
Guess who your children miss most when they are away at college? We'll give you a hint: it's not you, though your cooking may come in a close second to the family pet. But Bossy discovered a good way to ease the pain--a pet pillow! Just download a pic onto the website "AllAbout Vibe" and in just a week or so, your son or daughter will have a pillow to cherish. It is Bossy's son's prized possession at college and the one thing that he did not forget!
And whatever you do, don’t knit like my sister!
