Episode 27: Chicken Tortilla Soup and KAL
Even though we are not in her demographic, Bossy and Bootie very much enjoy the food porn on Tieghan Gerard's website, Half-Baked Harvest. We tried the chicken tortilla soup, and it is a winner, winner, chicken dinner! It's perfect for those nights when you need a little comfort food because you pulled eight ticks off your dog, got poison Ivan (as Bossy's son calls it), and there's a snow storm, all in the same week!
Tieghan was recently interviewed by Martha Stewart on her podcast and Bootie recalled the most excellent episode of Car Talk where they interviewed Martha Stewart (fun fact: our catchphrase, "Don't knit like my sister" is an homage to Car Talk). We love Martha Stewart and we really hope that the line "The point is not for me to lower myself to your standard, but for you to raise yourself to mine" that Cybil Shepard said when portraying her in the TV movie is an actual, direct quote from Martha.

Bootie and Bossy are embarking on their first official KAL (knitalong) and would love for you to join us! The pattern is Glymur by Jennifer Weissman and we're both using Treasure Goddess Yarn's Yak Silk DK Treasures. Bootie is using the colorway Treasure of the Emerald Isle and Bossy is using Song of the Sirens. We modified the pattern to make it wider (to avoid the mesh crop top look) and added a repeat of the eyelet stitch. So, we cast on 122 stitches instead of 100 (for the largest size). We added an extra repeat of the eyelet pattern and an i-cord edge. The lace pattern repeat is pretty easy but if you're new to lace, here's a tutorial on putting in a lifeline.
Following Patty Lyons' advice, Bossy made 4 swatches! Pro tip: put a knot in your yarn tail to indicate what needle size you used because you will forget! So if you used a size 4 needle, make 4 knots.
Here's our first KAL, from several years ago. It's the Foxtrot cardigan by Marie Greene, one of her 4 day KAL's. Bossy got stuck on sleeve island but she finished and doesn't it look fabulous on her? Bootie did not get stuck on sleeve island but she neglected to alternate skeins and so one of the sleeves is quite a bit darker than the rest of the sweater. Bootie's daughter doesn't seem to mind though and she wears it often. Bootie knit hers in Malabrigo Rios, colorway Sand.
The illustrious lustrous glitter thread project that Bossy made many years ago! Look at it glittering in the sun. Who doesn't love a little sparkle in their project?
And whatever you do, don’t knit like my sister!
