Episode 28: Another interview with Liss!
Our beautiful sister, Melissa generously agreed to come back on because we need more vegetables in our repertoire! Melissa discovered this recipe for roasted tomatoes on NPR and if anyone knows who deserves the credit, let us know. The recipe is as simple as it gets--throw a couple of cans of diced tomatoes in a pyrex, along with a bunch of cilantro, fresh garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, then run around panic cleaning before your guests arrive. Melissa also shared her recipe for baked polenta--a total game changer. And yes, one of us knit Melissa's hat!
Melissa is working on a mural for the American Legion in Sequim, WA. Pictured below is our grandfather with our aunt on his right and our mom on his left, circa 1941 in Ft. Lewis, WA. You can follow Melissa's progress on Instagram or Facebook by going to her website here.
Melissa created this logo for the nonprofit, Ian's ride. The mission of Ian’s Ride is to promote outdoor accessibility, further the availability of accessible technology, and encourage support services for those with mobility impairment. You can find out more information and donate here
A mock-up of another one of Melissa's projects: a mural for the volunteer hospice.
Are you in the throes of Spring cleaning ? Did you find a large box of dirt in your basement? Did you discover that the large quantities of brown and moss green yarn you have will not do for a baby shower present? You are not alone! Here are a few tips and treasures we found while trying to get more organized. Bossy will be heading to Webs, aka America's Yarn store, as usual to find something a little more baby friendly for the shower she was invited to. We recommend Marie Greene's book, The Joy of Yarn for wrangling your stash. Bootie found a needle holder on Amazon (it's no longer available but this one is similar) and here is the gorgeous one from Joji. Bootie is a big fan of Joji's bags and can not recommend them highly enough. Joji has managed to combine form with function in a very high quality product. Plus, it is a woman-owned and operated company in Beunos Aires. You have to wait for her shop updates--she doesn't have everything available all the time, but if you're patient, you too can amass a large collection (look out for her seconds sales--she deeply discounts products with very slight flaws). You can do a little stash busting and make yourself a one-of-a kind needle holder thanks to Becky Clowers pattern, Memories of Aloha. Bootie also loves Becky's project bags (her Etsy shop is Bellaricka). And shout out to Bootie's friend Lucy who makes the cutest stitch markers and project bags. You can never have too many project bags! You can find her Etsy shop, Knitting Sleuth here.

In case you need to get rid of other things to make room for your stash and projects bags, Bootie recommends The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. If you have any furniture that needs a new home, Bootie discovered that Habitat for Humanity will pick it up and even disassemble it for a fee.
Bootie is making progress on her Glymur poncho using the sumptuous Treasure Goddess Yak Silk DK in Treasure of the Emerald Isle--Bossy, not so much. Shout out to Bootie's friend Lynette who made the cute yarn sock out of an old t-shirt!
And even though Bossy has not made much progress on the KAL, she did manage to wrangle her needles into the needle holder she made for herself, so we'll call that a win (even if her son says it looks like a torture device from the movie Midsommar).
