Episode 32: Made with Love

Episode 32 Bootie and Bossy
00:00 / 32:54

Our recipe for this episode is a summer classic: Gazpacho! Here's the clip of Marjorie Taylor Greene saying gazpacho instead of gestapo. You're welcome. For the record, when Bootie says Crypton instead of crouton, this is charming and not horrifying. Bossy has been making this recipe for many years, as evidenced by all the splatters in her cookbook. It meets all of our criteria: makes a lot, uses one pot, and you have most of the ingredients in your larder. And it's versatile! It's perfect for a hot summer day.

Bootie and Bossy had the pleasure of visiting The Artful Ewe in Port Gamble, WA on Bossy's recent visit. This store is simply a delight. If Mrs. Weasley had a local yarn shop, this would be it. Bootie and Bossy both got some beautiful yarn called Bifflesham. Bossy is eyeing the Feathers Hat and Cowl by Elizabeth Hall for her next cast on. We also admired the Safety Pins Beanie by Evelyn Clark for its clever crown decreases.

One of our biggest fans, Bossy's husband, suggested that we feature a knitting reference from pop culture. So for this episode, in addition to Mrs. Weasley, we talked about another famous British knitter (and crocheter): Tom Daley. A while back, Bossy gifted Bootie Tom Daley's knitting book titled Made with Love. Here's the quote that Bootie read:

"Without knitting and crochet I wouldn't have won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Now I'm not saying that I couldn't have done it. I have been diving for 20 years and Tokyo was my fourth Olympics. Essentially I have been training my whole life to win Olympic gold. I have put in an enormous amount of effort and made many sacrifices; it has not been an easy journey nor one without preparation. However, it was the calmness and focus that knitting provided me when sitting up in the spectator stands between events, that helped to stop my mind spiralling into anxious thoughts and stay present in the moment, aided by the rhythmic movement of the stitches in my hands."

And even though we both knit, you won't see either of us competing in any equestrian events at the next Olympics! Melissa, it's all on you! Here is a picture of the sweet horse that got Bootie safely down Vinales Valley in Cuba despite rum tastings and traveler's diarrhea.

As for knitting updates, Bossy continues to plug away on the Glymur sweater (despite distractions from her naughty dog) and Bootie has made a little progress on the Pokemon sweater for her son.

Here's Toby trying to pin his many misdeeds on his Teddy Bear.

And whatever you do, don’t knit like my sister!

We have a game, thanks to our brilliant children who made it for us! Note that (for now) it is only playable on a desktop computer. Maybe you need a distraction for certain people so that you can get more knitting time? Or maybe you want to play a superfun knitting game? Either way, enjoy!!
