Episode 33: Chicken Fun

Episode 33Bootie and Bossy
00:00 / 32:15

Our recipe for this episode is perfect for busy, back-to-school nights: Pineapple Marinated chicken breasts! It's super easy, tasty and you'll probably have everything you need in your larder except the chicken and the fresh pineapple. The leftovers are fantastic too! Bossy first discovered the recipe in the September 26, 2021 edition of The New York Times:
“The group of enzymes in fresh pineapple, bromelain, excellently breaks down the connective tissues in thick, fibrous chicken breasts. In this brilliant recipe, Eric Kim uses pineapple in two ways: in a cheerful salsa, and as a marinade that transforms breast meat into something closer to tender dark meat. Don’t let the marinade sit for too long, he advises, or the chicken will fall apart during cooking. 15 minutes is the sweet spot for a recipe that clocks in, marinade and all, at 30 minutes.”

Our Knitting in Pop Culture moment is brought to you by Wallace and Gromit's "A Close Shave" where we are introduced to Wendolene Ramsbottom who owns a wool shop and plays Wallace's love interest. We're also introduced to the charming Shaun the Sheep (even his name is a pun!). From start to finish, it's a treasure trove of knitting puns and simply a delight. We also love Chicken Run where the chickens are knitters. I mean, right?

Here is Bootie's chicken puppet in a sweater that was originally intended for her cats but both the cats and the chicken are happier with this arrangement. One of these days Bootie and Bossy are going to get on the bandwagon and make Emotional Support Chickens.

One of Bossy's all-time favorite things: the project bag with knitting chickens that Bootie gave to her some years back. Oh look, there's an unfinished project spilling out there. Why haven't the knitting chickens finished it?!

More favorite knitted chicken things! The chickens Bootie knit for Bossy's son--they were well-loved, especially the one on the left whose neck was clutched every night for several years.

Bootie won at yarn chicken! This is the poncho she made for her Aunt Ruthie who is turning 90 this month! The yarn is Jojoland Rhythm in color RS42 and the pattern is Churchmouse's Easy Folded Poncho.

To celebrate, Bootie will probably have a drink out of her yarn chicken mug created by the artistic geniuses at JamPDX.

And whatever you do, don’t knit like my sister!
