Episode 37: How is Ina Garten like a Phoenix?

This episode is all about the one and only, Ina Garten. We start off with Ina's carrot ginger soup. This recipe is amazingly easy, delicious and healthy. It's the perfect way to start your new year if you're like us and may have overindulged over the holidays. Ina's memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens is a frank accounting of how Ina has navigated a successful career in the food industry while maintaining a loving relationship with her husband, Jeffrey. Spoiler alert: it ain't easy and it takes a lot more than luck. We highly recommend the book and particularly the audio version (you can knit while you listen!) since Ina herself narrates it.

One of the books that Ina references (and we talk about in the podcast) is Gail Sheehy's Passages.
Bootie made our sister Liss a Phoenix hat for Christmas. We will rise from the ashes. Bootie started with a pussy hat (using Lolodidit DK in charcoal), and then duplicate stitched a phoenix, based on Liss' design and using the special graph paper Bootie's son made. The yarn for the phoenix was all stash and some of it is the UV reactive yarn from Bootie's son's Pokemon sweater. Liss is also rocking the Creel stitch cowl, a super fun pattern by Marie Greene made with two colors of Malabrigo Caprino yarn.

And whatever you do, don’t knit like my sister!
